The current Deputy Mayor is Councillor Matthew Stone.
Matthew is a lifelong Buxtonian with family ties to Buxton and the High Peak going back many generations. He attended Buxton Infant and Junior Schools, before going to Buxton Community School, where he stayed on to complete his A Levels.
He started his career working at the sports hall at Buxton Community School, organising the Summer Sports Club for children aged 6-11 years. Matthew worked in hospitality, progressing into management and enhancing his knowledge and passion for real ales and home cooked food. In 2014 he started his career in retail which he enjoys, especially the opportunity to get involved with the local community.
Matthew has always enjoyed the challenge of charity events from raising money for getting his leg waxed to jumping out of a plane. He recently completed a 50 mile bike ride in London to raise money for Comic Relief. He is always looking for the next challenge.
Interests include rugby and supporting Sale Sharks and England. Matthew used to play rugby for Buxton and Derbyshire on the back row. He also enjoys spending time cycling around the High Peak and taking in the magnificent views and challenging hills!
