Deputy Mayor of High Peak

Councillor Stewart Gardner was elected Deputy Mayor of the Borough Council in May for 2023/24.

Stewart moved to Simmondley in Glossop in 1999. The area means a huge amount to him so to represent it on High Peak Borough Council fills him with pride. They moved to the area mainly because they love the countryside and the glorious Peak District. Stewart, along with his wife Melissa and son Joe love to make full use of the area's glorious walking, running and cycling trails. He is originally from Somerset but Glossop is their home and will always be special to the whole family.

Stewart finds that a particularly rewarding part of his role as a councillor is the ability to help local groups and projects. Some of the projects he has been involved in includes helping fund the community running track in Simmondley, the purchase of the soldier silhouette on the village green and securing the total refurbishment of the main kids playground in Simmondley he found very rewarding after a lot of hard work.

Cllr Gardner has worked for Manchester United TV since 2007 as a commentator and presenter; and it's fair to say there have been a few ups and downs in that time! He has also work for Premier League Productions and previously worked for the BBC as a Broadcast Journalist
