Getting Buxton 'noticed'...

Date: 28/08/2008

As the next Buxton Area Forum approaches, residents will find that they have two new notice boards in town, funded by the Going Local scheme.

Councillor Jonathan Davey and Spring Gardens Centre Manager Diana Golding

The new notice boards are outside the Buxton Volunteer Centre, in higher Buxton, and at the entrance to Spring Gardens Shopping Centre, in lower Buxton. Community groups can use them to publicise activities. The shopping centre manager and Buxton Volunteer Centre will maintain them.

The Council's Going Local initiative forms part of the Area Forum Programme covering the whole of the High Peak. Each forum area has been allocated an improvement fund of £10,000 for local, community-led projects.

Details of suggestions for more Going Local projects will be given at the next Buxton Area Forum, on Wednesday, September 10, at the Octagon Lounge, Pavilion Gardens.

The forum, which starts at 7pm and finishes at 9pm, will discuss how to prioritise spending public money on important services.

For example, is it more important to spend money on parks, affordable housing, reducing crime or cleaning the streets? The Council and its partners, including Derbyshire County Council, the Police and Derbyshire Fire Service, would like people's opinions on making these choices.

Councillor Jonathan Davey, Chairman of Buxton Area Forum said: "These notice boards illustrate how Going Local projects, administered through the area forums can help the community. In this case, by providing a single point of focus for events and activities in both higher and lower Buxton.

"Come along to the next Area Forum to find out more about proposed Going Local schemes. You can also contribute to the main topic for discussion -- which services are most important in the local area."

Organisations wishing to use the higher Buxton notice board should visit Buxton Volunteer Centre or ring them on 01298 23970.

To use the lower Buxton notice board, organisations are invited to put their publicity material through the letterbox of the Spring Gardens management office, located just inside the Waitrose entrance, next to Marks and Spencer food hall.
