Local young people joined Councillors and project partners to celebrate the opening of new play equipment at Brosscroft, on Friday, November 21, 2008.
Young people from Hadfield Youth Centre gave the thumbs up to the playground refurbishments -- the result of partnership working between High Peak Borough Council, Derbyshire County Council Youth Services, the Hadfield Youth Officials' young citizens' group and Johnnie Johnson Housing.
The improvements include the installation of new cradle swings, a 'twin fly' and a set of junior goal posts. Additional equipment is planned for the future, including a community shelter and basketball post.
The Brosscroft refurbishment is the latest in a series of improvements across the Borough. Play areas at Furness Vale, Bankswood Park and Newshaw Lane, in Hadfield, have also benefited from exciting new equipment for children of all ages. This was funded by the BIG Lottery.
Next year, play areas at Brown Edge Road, Ashwood Park and Harpur Hill, in Buxton, will be refurbished, following consultation with residents in the new year.
An official Christmas themed opening of the Bankswood Park play area has been organised for Sunday, December 7, 2008, between 11am and 3pm, in the park.
Andrew Bingham, Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development, said: "I am delighted to see the improvements to the Brosscroft play area. The refurbishment is additional to the three-year BIG Lottery programme of improvements, across High Peak, and results, from consultation with residents, confirm how the Council is committed to responding to local needs."
