Steps ahead by Going Local

Date: 04/09/2008

As the next Central Area Forum fast approaches, Chinley residents are enjoying the new steps over the railway, which were partly funded by the Council's Going Local initiative.

The new steps and handrail, which link Lower Lane to Chinley Park, make an improvement for walkers to take a circular route through the village.

The Council's Going Local initiative forms part of the Area Forum Programme, covering the whole of the High Peak. Each forum area has an improvement fund of £10,000 for local, community led projects.

The steps were partly funded by a £1,000 Going Local contribution and were built in partnership with High Peak Borough Council, the Friends of Chinley Park, Chinley, Buxworth and Brownside Parish Council, and Derbyshire County Council, with additional walling done by Groundwork.

The Friends of Chinley Park, assisted by Blackbrook Conservation Society, highlighted the need for the steps.

The next Central Area Forum is on Thursday, September 18, 2008, at the Royal Hotel, in Hayfield, when spending priorities will be discussed and residents will be able to suggest future Going Local projects.

Refreshments will be available from 6:30 pm. The meeting will start at 7pm and end at 9pm. High Peak Borough councillors and staff will be present to answer questions, listen to views and take note of any suggestions.

Councillor David Lomax, Chairman of the Central Area Forum, said: "The steps project illustrates how Going Local funding, can be used by local groups and residents to improve their neighbourhoods. To find out about future projects, and give your opinions about how public spending should be prioritised, do come along to the next Central Area Forum on 18 September."

The Royal Hotel, in Hayfield, has wheelchair access and a hearing loop.
