High Peak residents will soon see cleaner streets and public places, thanks to the employment of a new Environmental Enforcement Officer.
Responding to an increase in complaints, High Peak Borough Council took swift action to address the problems of dog fouling and litter and will be targeting 'hot-spot' areas of the Borough such as parks and open spaces, housing estates and town centres.
The Council will be taking a much tougher approach to environmental enforcement and will be issuing fixed penalty notices of £50 for dropping litter, dog fouling, graffiti, fly posting and fly tipping.
John Haken, High Peak Borough Council's Excecutive Councillor for the Environment, said: "The Enforcement Officer will be patrolling areas to reduce the dropping of litter and the problems caused by dog fouling.
"Residents have made it clear that they believe clean and tidy streets are a high priority for the Council. However, keeping the Borough free of litter involves everybody. Offenders will be fined, so think very carefully before you drop litter, dump rubbish, or consider putting fly posters up; and dog owners - please remember to take a bag out with you!"
