Photographic survey scheduled for conservation areas

Date: 01/02/2010

Consultants will be taking pictures of the outside of buildings in Charlesworth and Holehouse during February and March.

The consultants have been brought in by High Peak Borough Council to prepare detailed character appraisals of the conservation areas in the two villages.

Once completed, the appraisals will guide future development of the areas and be used to decide if either area should be extended.

Consultants will carry a letter of authorisation from the council and will not need access to residents' homes.

Photographic surveys are important as they capture the architectural style and historic detailing of properties, together with their condition and level of preservation.

Council Heritage Champion and Executive Councillor for Regeneration Tony Kemp said: "The appraisal and photographic survey are integral to determining how the character of the areas may have changed over time, and to identifying measures to protect their architectural and historic interest.

"Residents should not be alarmed by this work, and I don't anticipate the survey causing any inconvenience", he stressed.

A draft character appraisal should be completed by April, when it will be made available for public consultation.
