General election 2019

A general election will take place on Thursday 12th December 2019 where residents (registered to vote) will be asked to attend polling stations across High Peak to elect a Member of Parliament for the borough.

Register to vote

If you are not registered to vote you have until Tuesday 26th November to do it.

Anyone who is already registered to vote does not need to re-register!

Postal and Proxy voting

If you would like a postal vote, applications must be received by us by 5.00pm on Tuesday 26th November 2019. This includes applications for postal proxy votes.

The deadline for applications for a proxy vote is 5.00pm Wednesday 4th December 2019.

Cancellations of existing postal or proxy arrangements must be received by 5.00pm on 26 November 2019.

Overseas voters

If you are a UK citizen living abroad, you can apply to be an overseas voter.

You must have been registered to vote as a resident in the UK in the last 15 years and be eligible to vote in UK Parliamentary general elections.

If you were too young to register when you left the UK, you can still register as an overseas voter. You can do this if your parent or guardian was registered to vote in the UK, as long as you left the UK no more than 15 years ago.

If you are interested in standing as a Parliamentary candidate or would like to request a nomination pack please contact the Elections Office on 01298 28428.

Nominations  must be  hand delivered to the Elections Officer at Buxton Town Hall, Market Place, Buxton, SK17 6EL between Monday 11th November 2019 and Thursday 14th November 2019, 10.00 am to 4.00 pm.
