HAGS bags the new Whitfield play area contract
Plans for a new play area in Whitfield have moved a step closer with the appointment of a specialist playground manufacturer to carry out the work.
High Peak Borough Council is investing £90,000 in new play equipment at Whitfield Recreation Ground in Glossop and is working with Whitfield Community Group on the designs.
Four proposals for the site were submitted and, after careful consideration and evaluation, the Council and the Group have appointed HAGS to carry out the work.
Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Regeneration, Tourism and Leisure, said: "Being active, moving and enjoying the outdoors has so many wellbeing benefits and the Council has pledged to support communities to help create a healthier High Peak.
"We love our local parks and playgrounds and by investing in and improving this one in Whitfield we hope to encourage more and more people to increase their physical activity levels and enjoy the mental and social wellbeing benefits that moving more and being outdoors brings.
"I'm delighted that we're working in partnership with Whitfield Community Group to get their input at the earliest stage and they have been a huge support so far. Involving local people like this, part of the Council's new commitment to Co-operative Values, means we can be confident that we will be delivering a play area that meets the needs of the local residents and that they will love using the space for years and years to come."
Whitfield resident Clare Hennessy added: "I am so pleased that work is soon to start on the new play equipment at Whitfield Rec. It's been a privilege to be part of the process and have a legitimate say and input into choosing a play area which will, hopefully, establish the Rec as a vibrant and inclusive hub of our community."
The Council will now work with HAGS to agree a date for the work to begin.
