Waste and recycling collection fleet wears poppies with pride
November is the month when many of us wear our poppies with pride to show our ongoing support for our armed forces and ensure their service will never be forgotten.
The Royal British Legion, the UK's biggest armed forces charity, runs the annual poppy appeal campaign to raise the funds it needs to support service men, women and their families whenever and wherever they need it.
High Peak Borough Council and its waste collection partner AES are once again showing their support for the appeal, and the people it helps, by displaying poppies on waste collection vehicles.
Councillor Jean Todd, Executive Councillor for Climate Change and Environment, said: "This is an important time of the year when we all take time to remember and reflect on the sacrifices made by our armed forces past and present. Their selfless service is an example to us all.
"The Royal British Legion is the UK's biggest armed forces charity and the annual poppy campaign helps them raise the much-needed funds they need to continue their vital work.
"We're proud to support this work, and that of all those people who serve, by displaying poppies on our waste collection fleet again this year."
Services of remembrance will be taking place throughout the High Peak on Sunday 10 November. The Council, alongside a range of volunteers, has organised services in Buxton, Glossop and Hadfield and you can find out more details on our website.
The Council has pledged its ongoing commitment to our service personnel by signing the Armed Forces Covenant - a promise made by the nation to ensure that those who serve, or have served, and their families are treated fairly.
