Freezing weather affecting Glossop clock
We've all felt the effects of the freezing temperatures in recent days - including the clock at Glossop Town Hall!
The winter weather has frozen the town's timepiece and the Council has decided to keep it stopped temporarily to avoid damage to the mechanisms.
Work on the Council's major regeneration project to rejuvenate Glossop Halls and return them to public use is now nearing completion with the heating set to be one of the last few jobs to be finished.
Warmer temperatures in the building will help ensure the clock can be turned on once again and minimise the risk of another cold snap affecting its operation or causing damage.
Council Leader, Councillor Anthony McKeown, said: "We're close to completing the transformational regeneration works at the Town Hall now and expect the main heating in the building to be up and running in the next month or so which will help to resolve this temporary issue.
"Having the clock chime to mark the beginning of the two-minute silence on Remembrance Sunday made a real difference to the poignant service.
"Thanks to everyone for their continued patience - we know how important the clock is to the town and it will be back working again soon!"
