Check your Christmas bin collections online

The festive season is always a busy period but there's one calendar you can count on to offer a helping hand - the Council's online bin checker!

The 'find your bin day' page on the website means you can easily check when your waste and recycling will be collected at a time to suit you. Just enter your postcode and then select your address for full details.

There will be no collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year's Day. Green lidded bin collections will be suspended with the last collections taking place on Friday 20 December and resuming again from Monday 6 January.

Executive Councillor for Climate Change and Environment, Jean Todd, said: "Some collections during this year's holiday period are being brought forward so it's really important that you check to see if your collection day has changed.

"The website also has information about what to put in your bins if you need a reminder so you can check which seasonal items we accept on our collections and do please keep using your green-lidded bin ready for collections to start again in the new year."

Please remember to empty and rinse glass, plastic bottles, tubs, pots and trays and food cans before putting them in your brown bin.

Christmas cards and envelopes can be recycled unless they feature glitter and foil and wrapping paper that stays scrunched is also accepted.

Real Christmas trees that don't exceed 6 feet in height, and have had their decorations and bases removed, will be collected on your usual collection date up to 2 February if cut up and placed in the green-lidded bin or left at the side of it.

Anyone who can't access the information online can visit the reception area at Buxton Town Hall and Glossop Municipal Buildings and use the iPads provided or speak to customer service advisors for help via the contact centre on 0345 129 7777.

Council opening times will also be slightly different over Christmas and New Year. Receptions and the call centre close at 1pm on Christmas Eve. The call centre is open on Friday 27, Monday 30 and Tuesday 31 December and you can also access services online. We will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Receptions will open again on 2 January.
