Giving Fairfield a spring clean

Spring cleans are on the agenda for many at this time of year - including the community in Fairfield who have teamed up with the Borough Council and Police as part of a wider project to improve the area.
The cleanse and tidy up is part of the wider Project Unity, a partnership which includes the Police and the Council and is aimed at making Fairfield a better, safer and more prosperous place to live, work and visit.
The Council and its waste and recycling collection partner AES recently collected over 100 no longer wanted bulky and electrical items - weighing over 3.5 tonnes in total - from around 50 properties in the target area.
And, as part of their community work, children from Fairfield Junior School joined the mini Police, Neighbourhood Police Officers and Council colleagues on a litter pick collecting bags of litter. The school has been gifted litter picking equipment as a thank you for their efforts which means the school can continue to play an active role in keeping their local neighbourhood litter free.
The next steps are to clean up Fairfield Road including the alleyways. Executive Councillor for Community Safety, Godfrey Claff, joined the team to offer his help earlier this week.
Councillor Claff said: "A big part of this project is helping people feel proud of where they live and keen to look after it.
"So this work we've been doing with the local community is really important. Not only does it enhance the appearance of the area, clearing up footpaths and alleyways also improves access and makes it easier to see and be seen so people feel safer."
More works, including improvements to the small park at the bottom of Fairfield Road, are planned in the coming months.
