Supported Accommodation Provider

High Peak Borough Council is participating in the Supporting Housing Improvement Programme

High Peak Borough Council is participating in the Supporting Housing Improvement Programme funded by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) which has led to several changes in the way the authority manages the provision of supporting housing across the Borough and Housing Benefit claims.

The review is looking at all areas of supported housing, including accommodation, support and rental breakdowns. The review will also look at the pathways in and out of supported accommodation and the wider provision of properties/accommodation across the Borough. This also includes potential new providers.

What is Supported Housing?

Supported housing provides invaluable housing and support for homeless people/families, people with disabilities, mental health problems, substance misuse issues, ex veterans, victims who have experienced domestic abuse and many others.

Support staff can provide advice and support with life skills and help people access other services if needed. They give support and help teach people how to live independently and move into their own housing.

Support can include:

  • A safe and secure accommodation
  • Support to set up and keep a home and/or tenancy
  • Help with managing finances, get debt advice and apply for benefits
  • Opportunities to access education, training and employment.
  • Engagement with other services
  • Establish social contacts and attend activities
  • Overall improved health and wellbeing

Supported Housing Improvement Programme (SHIP)

High Peak Borough Council have been awarded funding from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) in a joint bid with all Derbyshire District and Borough Councils, to take part in the Supported Housing Improvement Program.

The aim of the programme is to improve standards where required, ensure the Local Authority is receiving value for money and to share and promote good practice within the supported housing sector.

You can find out more about the programme here

The SHIP team will review and monitor the quality of provision and service for both commissioned and non-commissioned supported accommodation. They will do this by carrying out proactive property inspections and face to face resident support reviews. We will work collaboratively with providers and tenants to offer support, advice and guidance to ensure that all our supported accommodation is:

  • Delivering a high level of support
  • The accommodation is safe, clean and appropriate, whilst being free from significant hazards
  • Offering value for money
  • Producing positive outcomes for individuals, families and communities.
