Compostable bags
Compostable bags can be bought from local supermarkets including Sainsbury's, Tesco, Morrisons, Waitrose, Aldi and Co Op.
If you buy your own bags please make sure they are compostable (not biodegradable) and show the EN13432 code and compostable "seed logo" (PDF, 133 KB) (opens new window).
But ...
You don't have to buy compostable bags.
Food waste does not have to be contained in a compostable bag to be recycled. You can recycle your food waste by putting the material straight in to your green lidded bin loose.
Bags not to use
Please do not use plastic bags.
Plastic of any kind will not break down in the composting process and means the soil improver cannot be used on local fields. If we see any plastic in your green lidded bin we will not empty it as this will contaminate the collection load.
Additional green lidded bins
You can buy an additional bin if you regularly have more compostable material than will fit in a single green lidded bin.
There is an initial charge of £63.20 per additional green-lidded bin (max 3), this amount includes delivery and the first year's collections. Annual fees are charged every April thereafter (the fee to collect throughout 2022/23 was £31 per bin)
