Unoccupied properties

If you own an empty property, you won't have to pay business rates for 3 months

Empty property relief.

Business rates are not payable in the first three months that a property is empty, this is extended to six months in the case of certain industrial properties.

For these reliefs to be applicable, the property must have been occupied for at least 13 weeks immediately prior to becoming vacant.

After this time you will need to pay business rates in full unless the rateable value is less than £2900 or an exemption applies. We will write to you and send out a bill once the relief has ended.
